SWAMPSCOTT PUBLIC SCHOOL
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
FOOD ALLERGY NOTICE REMINDER
2017-2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our elementary schools have several children in grades K-4 who have life-threatening allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, nut products and other types of foods. Strict avoidance of the allergen is the only way to prevent a life-threatening allergic reaction. For this reason, every classroom in the elementary schools will be ALLERGY AWARE/NUT-FREE. This includes both snack and lunch time, as well as any planned school celebrations that may include food.

When packing your child’s snack or lunch, please be careful to check food labels to ensure that it does not contain any peanut or nut products.  This includes food products with labels stating
“May contain traces of peanut/nut products” or processed in a facility”.  We need all classrooms regardless of whether there is a student with an allergy in that class, to follow the peanut/tree nut protocol.

Please contact the school nurse if you would like a sample list of peanut and nut-free products. Sunbutter is a good alternative if your child likes peanut butter sandwiches! If you do use sunbutter, please just label the baggie to show that it is sunbutter, not peanut butter.

Thank you for your diligence and support in this very important matter.  Please contact your school nurse with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Ann Hudson RN, Clarke School  781-596-8812
Jane Cassidy RN, Stanley School 781-596-8837
Jennifer Miller RN, Hadley School 781-596-8847

Remembering Ms. Gotlib

At this time of healing, the Clarke School community would like to honor Mrs. Gotlib by supporting her favorite charity. Caring for animals was a huge part of Ms. Gotlib’s life.  Many of her students can share stories about her beloved dog, Pepper. Fourth Grade Leaders will be coming to the classrooms each morning beginning this Wednesday, January 31, 2018 through Friday, Feb 9, 2018 to collect donations for the Massachusetts Humane Society.

We appreciate your support of this effort.
